The Trump administration has told EPA officials to remove the agency’s internet page on climate change, says Reuters, “the latest move by the newly minted leadership to erase ex-President Barack Obama’s climate change initiatives.” Soon after taking office last Friday, the administration removed nearly all mention of climate change from the White House website.
Reuters based its story on information from two EPA sources, who it did not name. The climate-change page has links to research on global warming and to data on emissions. One of the EPA staff workers told the news agency that if the web page is removed, “years of work we have done on climate change will disappear.” Some EPA workers were trying to save information from the web page or to persuade the administration to keep part of it. The Trump administration had no immediate comment, said Reuters.
“The order comes as Trump’s administration has moved to curb the flow of information from several government agencies who oversee environmental issues since last week, in actions that appeared designed to tighten control and discourage dissenting views,” said Reuters. President Donald Trump has nominated Scott Pruitt, who has sued EPA 14 times as Oklahoma attorney general, to become EPA administrator.
