Electoral outlook improves for Davis, Valadao

Republicans Rodney Davis of Illinois and David Valadao of California are in stronger position for re-election, according to revised Rothenburg Political Report/Roll Call ratings. Both races are now rated “leans Republican,” says Roll Call. Previously, the were “toss-up/tilts Republican.” Davis, a House Agriculture Committee member, has tried to block new school lunch rules as over-regulation. Valadao, a dairy farmer from the Central Valley of California, is a member of the House Appropriations subcommittee on agriculture.

The Fresno Bee says Democrats hold a 47-32 advantage over Republicans in party registration in the 21st congressional district and 73 percent of its residents are Hispanic. The Democratic nominee is Amanda Renteria, former chief of staff for Senate Agriculture chair Debbie Stabenow.

Davis narrowly won election in 2012 in his central Illinois district and faces former Madison County Judge Ann Callis, a Democrat, in the general election, says Ballotpedia.
