Democrats try new tactic to get House vote on immigration

House Democrats say they will distribute memos in 30 congressional districts to encourage Republican lawmakers to sign the discharge petition petition and force a floor vote on comprehensive immigration reform, says Roll Call. The targeted districts are held represented by Republicans who have spoken favorably about reform. So far, 191 of the 200 Democrats in the House have signed the petition.

President Obama met half a dozen religious leaders on Tuesday at the White House. “He emphasized that while his Administration can take steps to better enforce and administer immigration laws, nothing can replace the certainty of legislative reform and this permanent solution can only be achieved by Congress,” said the White House afterward.
