Dean to lead year-old Global Food Institute

Stacy Dean, a key Biden administration figure in public nutrition policy, was named executive director of the Global Food Institute, announced George Washington University on Tuesday. Dean will join the institute in mid-July.

The institute was founded in May 2023 by the university and the restaurateur and humanitarian José Andrés to encourage cross-disciplinary research and teaching that would transform “how we grow, distribute, consume, and think about food.” The executive director’s post is supported by a $5 million endowment.

A part of the Biden administration from its earliest days, Dean has three decades of experience in public nutrition policy. She previously directed nutrition policy at the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities. Previous to that, she was a budget analyst at the White House. At present, she is Agriculture deputy undersecretary for nutrition.
