The EPA overstepped with its Waters of the United States rule, said leaders of the National Corn Growers Association, who are happy the Trump administration will withdraw it. At the Commodity Classic, NCGA chairman Chip Bowling said, “[W]e do know we need to have some regulation and this group will be front and center when that time comes,” reported DTN.
Known as WOTUS, the rule was written by EPA because of conflicting Supreme Court rulings on the extent of coverage of federal clean-water laws. DTN quoted NCGA president Wesley Spurlock as saying, “There is still obviously a need for some guidance.”
A week ago, President Trump signed an executive order directing EPA to review and rescind or rewrite WOTUS. Farm groups were leading opponents of the 2015 regulation. The overhaul of the rule could take a year or longer.
