The House gave final congressional approval to the Grain Standards Reauthorization Act on a voice vote on Wednesday and sent it to the White House. The National Association of Wheat Growers urged President Trump to promptly sign the bill into law to assure the inspection system runs smoothly.
The bill, passed by the Senate two weeks ago on a voice vote, allows the USDA to collect user fees to defray the cost of federal inspection of grain. The U.S. inspection system is “a gold standard assurance backed by the federal government to both grain buyers and sellers,” said House Agriculture chairman Collin Peterson. “American grain farmers participate in a very competitive world, and foreign grain buyers should be confident in the process that we have in place to ensure our exports are adequately inspected.”
