Vermont broadcaster WCAX-TV says Coca-Cola, the largest soft drink company in the world, “is advising stores that some of its products, like individual cans and bottles, will no longer be available” when the state’s GMO food-label law goes into effect on Friday. Based in Burlington, WCAX pointed to an estimate by the Vermont Retail and Grocers Association that about 10 percent of food products will be pulled from sale because of the requirement to carry an advisory label.
Coca-Cola told WCAX, “To avoid multiple labeling changes, some lower-volume brands and packages we offer within our broad portfolio could be temporarily unavailable in Vermont.” Per-capita soda consumption is at a 30-year low, said Bloomberg, citing Beverage Digest.
