Chipotle will help farmers bear cost of food safety

Restaurant chain Chipotle will spend up to $10 million to help local farmers cover the cost of new safety tests and compliance with food-safety protocols, reports Bloomberg. One of the chain’s top executives announced the program during a meeting with employees. Previously, the company said some small suppliers might not be able to meet the new standards. Chipotle has made fresh, local ingredients a selling point for its Mexican-style food. Sales fell following an outbreak of food illness caused by E coli bacteria.
