The low pathogenic H7N3 avian influenza virus was confirmed in a commercial flock of 6,100 turkeys in California, said the World Organization for Animal Health in a notice on its website. “A commercial tom turkey flock exhibited coughing with a slight increase in mortality,” according to the information supplied by the USDA. The outbreak was located in Merced County, east of San Jose in California’s Central Valley. “The infected premises was placed under quarantine following preliminary findings and an epidemiological investigation was initiated. Follow-up surveillance and testing on 10 epidemiologically associated farms was negative” for the disease, said the USDA.
