The first case of avian influenza in England in six years was confirmed on a duck farm in Yorkshire, authorities said, a day after a highly contagious strain of bird flu was discovered at a poultry farm in the Netherlands, said the BBC. EU officials said the British case probably was linked to the Netherlands case and a recent German outbreak, it said. The EU says migratory birds are believed responsible for the outbreak. In Britain, some 6,000 birds will be culled in a six-mile zone around the Yorkshire duck farm to prevent the disease from spreading. A public health official said the risk to people was very low, said the BBC.
