Ten of the largest food companies in the world urged a global agreement on clear and achievable targets for the reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions, said the Guardian. In a joint letter than was published in newspapers in London and Washington, the companies say climate change is “bad for farmers and for agriculture. Drought, flooding, and hotter growing conditions threaten the world’s food supply and contribute to food insecurity,” The companies also said they would accelerate their own efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and use renewable energy. Among the companies signing the letter were Mars, General Mills, Unilever, Kellogg, Nestle USA and Stonyfield Farm. International negotiations are set for the end of this year in Paris on mitigating climate change.
