A small-scale study showed “an antioxidant in chocolate appears to improve some memory skills that people lose with age,” says the New York Times. The study, appearing in the journal Nature Neuroscience, tested healthy people aged from 50-69 who drank a mixture that contained large amounts of cocoa flavenols, an antioxidant. They performed about 25 percent better than people who got a low-flavenol drink, says the Times. The key is the antioxidants, says the Times story in advising against a do-it-yourself approach – chocolate candy bars have low amounts of them.
