The three-year-old AGree project on food and agriculture policy “is pivoting into action,” said co-chair Gary Hirshberg during a “Future of Food” forum. The project, funded by nine foundations issued papers on Nov 10 outlining its proposals in four areas – working landscapes, food and nutrition, international development, and immigration reform. AGree now will focus on developing its initiative and work through partnerships. Hirshberg said AGree would welcome 100 partners to its work today during a meeting in Washington.
For its working landscapes initiative, AGree is working with the Minnesota Agri-Growth Council, Hirshberg said, and was looking at demonstration sites in three other states. The landscapes initiative seeks to enlist farmers in a joint project to set conservation standards in a watershed.
