Iowa entrepreneur Bruce Rastetter, who played a major role in the development of large-scale hog farming and the ethanol boom in Iowa, tells the Des Moines Register that he doesn’t view himself as a political kingmaker. “I view it as trying to make a difference,” says Rastetter, who organized the Iowa Agricultural Summit, a cattle call this Saturday for Republicans thinking about the presidency. The Register profile story says the “piercingly blue-eyed” Rastetter “both shuns the spotlight and seeks it.” He is one of the largest political donors in the state. On the state board of regents, he advocated a plan to reward state universities that attract more students from Iowa.
