Farm groups, seed companies and equipment manufacturers met in Kansas City to discuss common rules for gathering, use and ownership of Big Data without reaching a conclusion, says Reuters. Big Data offers the chance to apply on large-scale operations the detailed knowledge of terrain, soil type and yield potential that smallholder farmers accumulate and to add to it advanced weather forecasting and management practices.
Farmers are enthused by Big Data’s potential but are concerned about possible misuse of information generated on their farms or loss of access to their records.
